Interview – Study in Korea
- WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
-
India
- WHAT DO YOU DO IN KOREA?
-
I am currently working as a digital marketer for a K-beauty company with a global presence in over 70 countries. I graduated from Sogang University with a degree in International Trade. In addition to my professional role, I am passionate about content creation and event management.
- WHY ARE YOU INTERESTED IN KOREA?
-
I am interested in Korea because it has provided me with opportunities I might not have had in my own country. For example, I had the chance to work with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the leading newspaper “The Korea Herald,” and the Seoul Tourism Organization. Additionally, Korea has allowed me to explore my interests and pursue the things I love.
- WHY DO YOU CHOOSE TO STAY IN THIS CITY?
-
I chose to stay in Seoul because it was the first city I arrived in for my higher studies, and I’ve remained here ever since. As the capital city of Korea, Seoul offers exceptional convenience and connectivity, unlike other cities in the country.
- WHERE IS YOUR LOCAL RECOMMENDATION IN THIS CITY?
-
I recommend visiting the theme cafes in Seongsu and Hongdae for a unique and trendy experience. The palaces near City Hall offer a glimpse into Korea’s royal history, while Insadong is perfect for exploring traditional artifacts and cultural treasures. For shopping, Myeongdong & Apgujeong is a bustling hub with a wide variety of stores and street food. Additionally, don’t miss the vibrant street performances in Hongdae and the beautiful Han River parks for a relaxing day outdoors.
- WHAT DO YOU ENJOY THE MOST WHILE STAYING ABROAD?
-
What I enjoy most about staying in Korea is the sense of independence and security the country offers. The safety of the city, especially at night, is remarkable. I can explore various neighborhoods and enjoy late-night activities without any concerns. The excellent public transportation system makes commuting effortless, allowing me to travel anywhere in the city with ease. This convenience and sense of security have truly enriched my experience of living in Korea.
- WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE BEING IN KOREA?
-
The initial challenge of the language barrier has been largely overcome after residing in Korea for an extended period. Yet, navigating the Korean corporate world and adjusting to cultural differences and social norms remain ongoing challenges. Korea has numerous unwritten rules and unique customs that can be unfamiliar to outsiders, requiring continuous adaptation and understanding.
- WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN KOREA AND YOUR COUNTRY?
-
India and Korea differ in several aspects. India boasts a rich cultural heritage with diverse religions, languages, and traditions, whereas Korea maintains a more homogeneous culture influenced by Confucian values. While Korea is highly industrialized with advanced technology, its fast-paced culture sometimes impacts mental peace of its people. Commuting in Korea is notably easier, aided by the country’s smaller size compared to vast India.
- DID YOU EXPERIENCE ANY CHANGE IN YOUR LIFE AND FUTURE PROSPECTS?
-
I have become more goal-oriented and productive, having clearly defined what I aim to achieve in the next five years, and I am actively pursuing these goals. Living in Korea has played a significant role in fostering this change by providing me with a structured environment, opportunities for personal growth, and exposure to a culture that values diligence and perseverance. The dynamic and fast-paced nature of life in Korea has motivated me to set ambitious goals and consistently strive towards achieving them.
- WHAT IS YOUR DREAM?
-
My dream is to become an entrepreneur focused on fostering mutual cultural exchange between India and Korea. I aim to create platforms that promote and celebrate Indian culture in Korea, and vice versa, bringing people together through meaningful cultural initiatives and exchanges. This endeavor is driven by a desire to strengthen cultural understanding and appreciation between these two diverse yet richly vibrant nations.
- MESSAGE TO OUR FRIENDS WHO WILL GO TO KOREA.
-
If you plan to visit Korea, learning the language is essential for navigating effectively, as communication can be challenging without it. It’s important to embrace and respect the culture of any country rather than criticizing it, which can greatly enhance your experience.
- HOW DO YOU LEARN KOREAN?
-
I learned it both in India and Korea, and now I continuously engage in learning by teaching Korean through my Instagram page.
