Interview

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

Netherlands

WHAT DO YOU DO IN KOREA?

I love traveling to Korea for both business and fun. I work with a lot of Korean skincare brands, so it’s important for me to see the people I work with in person, as well as spot new skincare trends in the many beauty stores around the country. I also love Korea’s rich culture and can’t get enough of visiting temples and old hanok style buildings.

WHY ARE YOU INTERESTED IN KOREA?

In 2019 I got approached by a company to film a video and try out viral Korean beauty products. I really loved how innovative these products were and searched more information about Korean skincare and Korean culture online. I started watching Korea travel vlogs on YouTube and came across K-pop concert vlogs. My interest for the country gradually grew from there.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO STAY IN THIS CITY?

The first time I came to Korea I only visited Seoul. There’s so much to do in the capital city and I absolutely fell in love with its vibe. However, on my second trip I wanted to see more of the country. I went to Busan and Gangneung and loved spending time near the ocean.

WHERE IS YOUR LOCAL RECOMMENDATION IN THIS CITY?

My Seoul recommendations: Cheongsudang café for the best matcha cake, Saladaeng Embassy for lunch, Banyan Tree for a luxury spa experience, Cafe cafe Pokpo for the best waterfall views, Soha Salt Pond for amazing salt bread and Jogyesa Temple + Gyeongbokgung palace to experience Korean culture. My Busan recommendations: make sure to visit the Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, Busan Sky Capsule, Haeundae beach, Gamcheon Culture Village and Huinnyeoul Culture Village. Also, I definitely recommend going on a yacht tour! It’s so much fun. Lastly, I recommend eating at 착한회집! Their sea food soup is amazing! My Gangneung recommendations: 강릉그림카페 Gangneung Greem Cafe for all the ‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’ fans, Arte Museum for an immersive art experience and the BTS bus stop for my fellow K-pop fans (and whilst you are there enjoy Jumunjin Beach and walk from there to the Sodol Adeul rock park). Bonus tip: Go to Everland to see the capybaras! They are so cute!

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY THE MOST WHILE STAYING ABROAD?

I really enjoy the beautiful nature of the country, the amazing food and all the aesthetically pleasing places! Korea has so much to offer and I can’t wait to explore more.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE BEING IN KOREA?

I love being in Korea and overall my experiences have been really good. Sometimes there are some cultural differences you have to get used to, but I haven’t faced any major challenges.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN KOREA AND YOUR COUNTRY?

The Netherlands and South Korea are completely different. One of the most noticeable differences, besides the obvious cultural differences, is that South Korea is so extremely clean in comparison to my home country. People take their own trash with them and nobody seems to just throw trash on the beaches or streets and when they do, it usually gets cleaned early in the morning. That’s amazing!

DID YOU EXPERIENCE ANY CHANGE IN YOUR LIFE AND FUTURE PROSPECTS?

I work with a lot of Korean brands, so my trips to South Korea have not only been fruitful for me personally and for my own growth and experiences, but also for my business.

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM?

I would love to visit more places in South Korea and travel to other countries as well. I hope to continue to grow my social platforms and provide my followers with inspiring content that puts a smile on their face.

MESSAGE TO OUR FRIENDS WHO WILL GO TO KOREA.

Go explore Korea and don’t just stay in Seoul. With the KTX it’s so easy to travel to new places and there’s so much to discover. Also, TikTok and Instagram Reels have become a great source of information when it comes to traveling. I always save videos with new hotspots and recommendations. Besides that, I recommend booking a guided tour. I did that for my recent Busan trip and it was amazing! I got to see so many highlights in one day.
