Interview

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

Bangladeshi

WHAT DO YOU DO IN KOREA?

Currently, I’m doing my undergraduate degree in Environmental Engineering. Besides studying, I love to travel and do volunteering activities. Also, I’m a huge K-pop fan so I really enjoy going to concerts a lot.

WHY ARE YOU INTERESTED IN KOREA?

Back in 2018, I got into Kdramas, and then by the passing of time, I fell for Kpop as well. I must need to add that the huge number of opportunities for job, and higher studies these days is attracting lots of foreigners as well. Like most of the people, I also thought about visiting Korea at least once in my lifetime. But never imagined it will turn into a reality until I got scholarship to study in Korea back in 2022.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO STAY IN THIS CITY?

For me actually I was destined to live in Chungcheongnam-do ,Nonsan during my first stay in Korea for almost 1.5 year because of my language program which was decided by the scholarship provider authority. Later on for my degree program, I shifted to Gangwon-do. People before coming to Korea mostly know about Jeju, and Busan to travel. But what I noticed after coming to Korea is that Gangwon-do is quite famous among Koreans for traveling during their vacation time. The city I’m living in currently is named Chuncheon. It is very convenient and foreigners friendly, also close to Seoul which means I have more opportunities for extra curricular activities .And as a nature lover I can say it is really peaceful and close to mountains and sea . And many of you might not know that the famous South Korean Footballer Son Heung-min and Newjeans Minji are also from Chuncheon.

WHERE IS YOUR LOCAL RECOMMENDATION IN THIS CITY?

If anyone comes to Chuncheon I must recommend the Chuncheon Samaksan Lake Cable car and there are many famous cafe spots in Chuncheon. One of my top recommendations is Cafe Santorini and Cafe Infield (which is run by Son Heung Min’s sister where you can buy various sports kits related to soccer).

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY THE MOST WHILE STAYING ABROAD?

I enjoy the free traveling opportunities created by Govt. and local organizations in Korea to promote tourism. Also, I love how organized and disciplined Korea is! I think is so safe to travel even if you are a solo traveler. And of course not; all the incredible concert experiences I had until now are the best part of my stay here.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE BEING IN KOREA?

For me, I think it’s the language. Actually Korean is my sixth language and I started to learn Korean from zero. I’m not saying it’s too hard but it’s just like you need to get used to it. Also as an undergraduate student, I can say most of the degrees offered in Korean universities are in fully Korean. So students like me should be mentally prepared to face various type of challenges.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN KOREA AND YOUR COUNTRY?

I must say one of the biggest differences between my country and Korea is the culture. The lifestyle, and food habits all are very different. But I must say I love the way how safe Korea is for girls! Compared to my country the food is quite expensive in Korea like vegetables and fruits but on the other hand, the skincare and cosmetics are cheaper in Korea!

DID YOU EXPERIENCE ANY CHANGE IN YOUR LIFE AND FUTURE PROSPECTS?

I think after coming to Korea, my vision of life has changed I have learned to do things on my own , value of human bondings which has made me more confident and independent. Studying abroad is a total new discovery which might seems to be hard at first but you know every moment is full of new adventures!

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM?

For me it was always a dream to study abroad since my last year of high school which is mainly because of my major. I thought studying abroad will bring more opportunities in my study field rather than my country. Right now I’m more focused on my career life and want to see myself as a successful Environmentalist in the future and do something better for the earth.

MESSAGE TO OUR FRIENDS WHO WILL GO TO KOREA.

Like all other countries, Korea also has its own pros and cons. But I can say most of you will definitely enjoy your stay in Korea because of the safe and friendly atmosphere.Everyone should visit Korea at least once in their lifetime ~

HOW DO YOU LEARN KOREAN?

I learned Korean for almost 1.5 year at Konyang University as it was a part of my scholarship program. Right now I’m trying to improve it by communicating with my Korean friends and participating in different cultural activities.
